Currency Department

Director of Currency Department: Ms. Alimaa B.

For the purpose of fulfilling the main duties relevant to issuing national currency, as stipulated in the Law of the Central Bank (Mongolbank), Currency Department shall perform the following functions.

  • 1. Ensure the proper composition of the national currency in the course of issuing into and withdrawing from circulation;
  • 2. Accomplish reprinting, transporting and building an appropriate level of currency reserve;
  • 3. Ensure safe, reliable and efficient operations of the Reserve and Central Vault;
  • 4. Improve and advance at all times the security features and quality of currency in line with the world’s available innovative, pioneering and anti-counterfeiting technologies;
  • 5. Perform proper operations such as ensuring authenticity, legitimacy of currency, as well as replacement and destruction of the unfit currency;
  • 6. Construct the all guiding rules and regulations, whichever necessary for proper functioning of the above listed core operations and validate their compliance;
  • 7. Develop and submit policy proposals related to the above stated core functions;
  • 8. Store and preserve all demonetized, past withdrawn banknotes, coins, specimens, commemorative and the other types of currencies made for suveniour purpose. Currency Department shall be responsible for the proper utilization of these value currencies and shall define and fulfill appropriate procedures and instructions for this duty.
